Primary 2 Physical and health Lesson note Week 4:Moving Our Body Parts (Part 4) – Movement Patterns and Coordination

Week 4: Moving Our Body Parts (Part 4) – Movement Patterns and Coordination

💡 Teacher's Overview & Guide
  • Subject: Physical and Health Education / Basic Science
  • Class: Primary 2
  • Term: First Term, Week 4
  • Duration: 40 Minutes
  • Instructional Materials: Music player/speaker, drum or tambourine, chalk-marked pathways on floor.
  • Textbook Guide: Refer to "Movement Concepts, Directions, and Rhythms".

Behavioral Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate movement directions (forward, backward, sideways, up, down).
  2. Change movement speeds (fast, slow) and pathways (straight, curved, zigzag).
  3. Form distinct body shapes (tall, wide, small/curled, twisted).
  4. Coordinate rhythmic body movements to musical beats.

Presentation Steps

  1. Introduction: Play a steady drum beat. Have pupils clap in sync to introduce movement rhythm and coordination.
  2. Directions, Speeds, & Pathways:
    • Directions: Moving forward, stepping back, sliding sideways.
    • Speeds: Fast running vs. slow tiptoeing; instant "Freeze" on whistle signal.
    • Pathways: Moving in straight lines, gentle curves, and sharp zigzags.
  3. Body Shapes & Rhythmic Coordination: Forming tall stretches, small curled balls, wide stars, twisted shapes. Marching and clapping to musical rhythms.
  4. Class Activity: Creative movement to music—pupils move like animals or shapes according to fast/slow music and freeze when music stops.

📝 Short Board Note for Pupils

WEEK 4 (FIRST TERM)
TOPIC: MOVEMENT PATTERNS AND COORDINATION

1. Directions: Moving forward, backward, sideways, up, and down.

2. Speeds & Pathways: Fast/slow speeds along straight, curved, or zigzag paths.

3. Body Shapes: Tall, wide, small/curled, and twisted shapes.

4. Coordinated Movement: Marching, crawling, clapping, and dancing to music beats.

Evaluation & Assessment

  • Show how to walk in a zigzag pathway.
