3rd Term Week 8 Basic science Lesson Note: Clay (Part 3) – Working with Clay -primary 2

Week 8: Forms of Energy: Sound (Part 2)

💡 Teacher's Overview & Guide
  • Subject: Basic Science and Technology
  • Class: Primary 2
  • Term: Third Term, Week 8
  • Duration: 40 Minutes
  • Instructional Materials: Large drum, whistle, audio recordings of thunderstorm, birds, or soft music.
  • Textbook Guide: Turn to "Properties and Types of Sound" in the textbook.

Behavioral Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between loud and soft (quiet) sounds.
  2. Classify sounds as pleasant or unpleasant (noise).
  3. Distinguish between high-pitched and low-pitched sounds.
  4. Identify fast and slow sounds.

Presentation Steps

  1. Introduction: Beat a drum loudly, then whisper softly to the class. Ask pupils to state the difference between the two sounds.
  2. Loud vs. Soft Sounds:
    • Loud: Thunder, car horn, shouting, big drums.
    • Soft: Whispering, gentle breeze, tiptoeing feet.
  3. Pleasant vs. Unpleasant Sounds:
    • Pleasant: Sweet music, singing voices, bird chirping (makes us feel happy).
    • Unpleasant (Noise): Screaming, loud grinding machines, heavy traffic horns (disturbs us).
  4. Pitch (High and Low) & Tempo:
    • High Sound: Bird singing or whistle blowing.
    • Low Sound: Thunder rumble or deep bass drum.
    • Fast/Slow: Rapid drum beats versus slow lullaby music.
  5. Class Activity: Call out actions for pupils to make: whisper (soft), clap fast, roar like a lion (loud), or imitate a bird (high pitch).
