Kinetic Molecular Theory of Matter - Photo Explanation

The Kinetic Molecular Theory of Matter is a concept that basically states that atoms and molecules possess motion energy (kinetic energy) that we perceive as temperature
. In other words, atoms and molecules are constantly in motion , and we measure the
energy of these movements as the temperature of that substance. This means if there is an increase in temperature, the atoms and molecules will gain more energy (kinetic energy) and move even faster.

The kinetics molecular theory of  matter deals with matter molecular motion in the various state, i.e. Gas, Liquid and solid  as follows

All matter (solid, liquid, and gas) is made up of tiny particles called atoms, or atoms that are joined to form molecules.

These particles are in constant random motion.

Particles in motion possess kinetic energy.

Their motion increase as they gain energy(increase in temperature).

There is an exchange (transfer) of energy between particles (atoms and molecules) during a collision between them.

Gaseous State
Collisions between particles are perfectly elastic.
The motion is greatest unlike in liquid and solid.
The particles (molecules) in gases do not exert large forces on each other but with the wall of its container, unless they are in collision with each other.
Gases assumes the shape and volume of its container and will expand to fill a container of any size.
Particles are very well far apart with no regular arrangement. as you can see below.

liquid State
Collisions between particles are perfectly elastic.
The motion is less than as in Gas.
Liquids assume the shape of the container which it occupies but maintain their volume – particles close together with no regular arrangement.
 as you can see below

 Solid State .

Collisions between particles are perfectly elastic.
The motion is least than as in liguid.

Solids retain a fixed volume and shape – particles are tightly packed, usually in a regular pattern. see image below

The kinetic molecular theory is very useful in explaining or describing the forces between molecules and the energy that they possess, as well as, the effects of thermal energy, temperature and pressure on matter.
This is one of the must know in chemistry theories.

This is why if you drop oil on a bowl of water, after some time the oil will make its way round the surface of the bowl of water.
If you spray perfume  at one end of a room in a very short time the entire room will be filled with the fragrance of the perfume but if you keep a piece of iron at one end of a box it will remain there unless you shift it to another end.
