Term: First Term

Week: Week 9

  • Role-Play Conversations

1. The 5 "W" Helper Words

When we want to know something, we use special question words. We call them the 5 Helper Words. Each word has a different job to do:

  • Who is used to ask about a person (e.g., Who is your teacher?)

  • What is used to ask about a thing or an action (e.g., What are you eating?)

  • Where is used to ask about a place (e.g., Where is your schoolbag?)

  • When is used to ask about the time or day (e.g., When do you go to sleep?)

  • Why is used to ask for a reason (e.g., Why are you smiling?)

2. Asking About Our Daily Activities

We do many things every day, like waking up, eating breakfast, coming to school, and playing. We can use our 5 helper words to talk about these activities with our friends.

Examples of Questions and Answers

3. Classroom Practice: Conversation Path

Teachers should use this simple conversational sequence to help pupils practice asking and answering questions in pairs.

1.Listen and Copy:Step 1.

The teacher says a question clearly, and the whole class repeats it with the correct rising question voice.

  • Practice: "Where ... is ... my ... pencil?" ✏️

2.The Quick Answer Game:Step 2.

The teacher throws a soft paper ball to a pupil and asks a quick question. The pupil answers and throws it back.

  • Teacher: "What is your best color?"

  • Pupil: "My best color is blue!"

3.Role-Play in Pairs:Step 3.

Two pupils stand up at the front of the class to act out a morning conversation.

  • Pupil A: "Hello! What is your name?"

  • Pupil B: "My name is Ese."

  • Pupil A: "Where do you live?"

  • Pupil B: "I live in Ughelli."

4. Simple Oral Comprehension

(Teacher Tip: Read this short text aloud to the pupils. Ask them to listen with their "magic ears" and answer the questions out loud.)
